AEGIS - Security Integration Software Use Case: Airports

The goal of our flagship software, Aegis, is to give monitoring operators a product that is much simpler to use but, at the same time, empowers them to do more. KapLogic is delivering on that promise. Aegis is THE leading software platform that integrates disparate systems into one unified system for the security industry. What it does is unite all the distinctly separate systems and sensors of a comprehensive security solution - such as access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, intercom, fire safety, data protection, and more – into one seamless management platform. The benefit to security personnel and monitoring operators is that it gives them one remarkably simple-to-use physical security information management solution that is customizable to their specific needs.

While Aegis software delivers one single platform that unifies the capabilities of a security systems’ various components, it is proving its benefits to users across many industry sectors! In our Use Case Blog series, we are highlighting how security teams and monitoring operators, each tasked with protecting facilities of all different kinds that face markedly different security challenges, are reaping the same functional benefits that Aegis software provides.

Airports are among those sectors adopting the Aegis solution to help them scale the many security challenges they must contend with. Threats can come from a variety of different sources, ranging from terrorist attacks, lone wolf radicals, smuggled weapons, even internal threats involving the use of firearms and other explosive devices.

We at KapLogic work with airports across the country. In a recent project for an airport client, we were brought on to help them better secure their exit lanes. Secure exit lanes are vital at airports to ensure the security of their passengers as well as their workers. Secured exit lanes are proving to be a safe way to ensure that arriving passengers exit the gate without the need to post security guards. Security exit lanes with one-way traffic serve to guide arriving passengers from the air side to the land side of the airport. An automated exit lane system offers the convenience of constant operation without the need or cost for traditional security guards.

This project highlights how KapLogic can provide custom solutions that meet the often complex requirements of our clients. In this situation, the airport had exit lanes for international arrivals and it needed approximately ten different security alarms. There were multiple exit lanes and, based on which of the ten alarm triggers they needed, they wanted custom actions for each alarm. They also wanted custom actions on each output that the operators could select. For this solution we met all their requirement with Aegis and, in addition to that, we provided a custom graphical pane that the monitoring operators could look at and get an overall view of each exit lane.

To improve their awareness and know how to best respond to a triggered alarm, they needed to know which alarm was triggered, as well as which specific output was activated. With our solution, they could clearly see all those pieces together and simultaneously. We were able to consolidate for this client one hundred or more outputs and alarms into one console package that the operators could quickly and easily see at a glance and have a clear picture and understanding of all the activity taking place within those exit lanes.

Using our Aegis solution, we were able to add another critical piece of security, better leverage the airport’s security capabilities, and build their efficiencies while also saving them money.
