Intelligent Integration in Transportation - Part 2: Unifying & Automating Thousands of Cameras

Countless monitoring station operators, especially those working in the fast-paced transportation sector, have come to rely on video display walls to help keep their control room operations running smoothly, swiftly and efficiently. That’s because video walls, when used in conjunction with local desktop monitors, empower operators with situational awareness and the ability to make educated decisions on the appropriate response to take to incidents.

Video walls have indeed earned their stripes, not only for providing situational awareness during an incident but for post-incident review, as well. But beware, having static images on the screens of only a handful of frequently viewed cameras can limit overall situational awareness to only those particular feeds. The good news is, when systems are unified through the Aegis software platform, the video wall can become a central point for viewing events across all recorded locations. Aegis can actually automate literally thousands of cameras. Footage (from any one or more of those thousands of cameras) of any suspicious incident taking place will immediately appear on the video wall and provide operators with detailed alarm information. Security camera images can then be immediately sent to security personnel and/or law enforcement officers in the area, ensuring that they also are equipped with optimal situational awareness. Without that ability, critical incidents could be missed and/or gone unnoticed or unrepresented on video wall screens.

This underscores the importance of unifying disparate security systems on one secure common platform. And it’s why airport and other transportation hubs rely on KapLogic’s Aegis software solution. This customizable and powerful physical security information management solution is easy to use and seamlessly integrates disparate security products. It provides one simple common user interface for multiple security and information subsystems operations, regardless of the manufacturer. The limitless integration capabilities that Aegis provides to users in the transportation sector allows them the freedom to choose the security components most appropriate for their specific hubs and facilities. Video surveillance, access control, intrusion alarm, and intercom can all be coordinated to work together to provide a seamless, simple, consistent, and easy-to-use control point for operators. This Aegis capability assures them the ability to respond swiftly, which is particularly important when security breaches occur at airports and other high-volume transportation hubs.

These types of facilities are increasingly vulnerable to the very security threats that Aegis can help mitigate. In fact, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) reported earlier this year that passengers with firearms at checkpoints were stopped at 234 airports nationwide in 2020. Officers identified twice as many firearms per million passengers screened at airport security checkpoints nationwide in 2020 as compared to 2019, and at a significantly higher rate than any other year since the agency’s inception.

Their report further reveals that TSA officers detected 3,257 firearms on passengers or in their carry-on bags at checkpoints, despite the fact that the total number of passengers screened in 2020 fell by 500 million as opposed to 2019 due to the pandemic. Of those firearms caught in 2020, about 83 percent were loaded.

Increased situational awareness and swift responses have never been more important. Call KapLogic today and put the benefits of our Aegis software solution to work for you, your security personnel, and sensitive transportation facilities.
